Saigon-Hanoi Bank (SHB), one of Vietnam’s leading commercial banks, is rapidly advancing its digital transformation with the adoption of cutting-edge banking technologies. The bank is particularly focused on separating its core banking functions from customer interaction systems to enable agile updates and enhancements aimed at improving customer service.

Tu Duong, deputy head of digital and retail banking at SHB, explains: “The bank prioritises separating core banking functions from customer engagement systems to enable swift updates and enhance customer experiences.”

Further illustrating their technological advancement, Duong said: “We’ve introduced an encapsulating security payload layer to connect our systems through application programming interfaces.” This development is part of SHB’s strategy to maintain a competitive edge and adapt quickly to market demands.

Choosing to implement Temenos software is a key part of their strategy, as Duong points out: “Choosing Temenos reflects our proactive approach, aiming to expedite product customisation and maintain competitiveness.” This move is expected to streamline operations and allow for faster product development and customisation.

Over the next five years, SHB aims to simplify its core functionalities to drive efficiency improvements. Duong shared an example of these efficiencies, noting significant time savings in processing loans: “We’ve got a concept of recreating a capacity for the network and utilising it to become more efficient.” This has reduced the processing time for a passbook-based lending product from two hours to two minutes online.

Despite facing inevitable challenges, SHB is committed to its ongoing transformation to modernise operations for customer satisfaction.
