In fact, banks that started with the customer experience issues in mind and work back to the technology and data analytics infrastructure have made most progress.

Despite growing budgets, banks are forced to prioritize which areas they want to build up first. It is often a long shoot between improvements in analytics, business insights and market share gains. Only a fraction of banks in the Asia Pacific region have to date had hands-on experience with real time big data implementations. The majority are still in trial mode, learning from e-commerce and internet companies how to provide better customer support to the front line. Front line staff also need to learn new skills in order to benefit.
