What’s in store for the Asia Pacific banking industry in 2018?

The global economy has been on a synchronised upswing in the past months, outperforming most predictions, driven by the budding rebounds of developed economies.

Despite various political uncertainties in Europe, the Middle East and the Korean peninsula and dramatic changes in US trade policies, major economies in Asia Pacific look set to continue to enjoy stability and growth, although there still remain pockets of vulnerability in countries such as Japan and India.

With the world economy outperforming most predictions in 2017, what is in store for Asia Pacific banks in 2018? Will financial institutions continue to enjoy the gains made last year? What challenges will banks contend with this year? How will regulations, disruptive business models and technologies, and changing customer behaviour affect banks’ performance in 2018?

The discussion will focus on the following areas:

  • The impact of current “Goldilocks” conditions and how long will they last?
  • Asset quality, risk management strategies and financial health of banks in the region
  • Other emerging risk and opportunities
